How it all began

We Swiped Right

Dating during Covid was no easy task.

Our first date was in December, on a “heated” patio at one of the few restaurant/bars that was serving people. The restaurant would only let you check in, so when Ryan arrived he couldn’t sit down right away and had to wait in the parking lot for the table to be ready. He texted Kathy to let her know, and she was just then pulling in.

She unknowingly pulled her car into the spot across from Ryan and parked. So there we are, sitting in our cars staring at each other before we’ve even met.

Ryan had to break the awkwardness and called Kathy to ask if she wanted to wait together in his car, but it wasn’t until this moment that Ryan realized his car was in no way, shape, or form in first date cleanliness condition.

He spent the next 10 seconds shoving every random item around the dash into the arm rest, as he asked her if she would like to join him. Luckily for Ryan, it wouldn’t be the first time she said “Yes”.

Memories

One of my favorite dates/outings was during Covid when Michigan was still shut down, but Ohio was open. We spent the weekend in Toledo and it really solidified our connection. It was the first time things felt somewhat normal, we spent the entire weekend together dancing, eating, and yes there was some drinking too. Kathy’s friends joined us on day two and I learned that we weren’t gonna win any Euchre tournaments together, but we sure would have fun.

Ryan won me over on our second date when he prepared a multi-course meal with wine pairings. To my surprise the man is an amazing cook. Outside of his “Michelin Star” meals, traveling together has always been some of my favorite times. The kids keep us extremely busy, but it’s very important for us to make time to spend together.
